Silica And its Uses

Silica
Summary of Homeopathic Remedy:
  • Person:
  • Slow metabolism/quality. Usually quiet, subdued, retiring. Often very clever people academically.
  • In good state - good at talking lucidly to groups, but underneath lack of confidence. Open minded - therefore will readily listen to whats said. Have their own opinions though. Not easily led. Can be rigid, stubborn. Paradox - fixity, rigidity / mildness.
  • Don't undertake new things because of fear of failure.
  • Physical side - rigidity, suppleness is lost. Eg skin cracks rather than stretches. Glands harden. Tumors form. Scar tissue forms keloids.
  • Silica person lacks "true grit".
  • Child - academic rather than sporty. Sometimes sickly or thinnish frame. If they're on top of school work - fine. If they're slipping behind - anxious, retiring (headaches from trying to hard).
  • Headaches - start in occipt region and spread forward to eyes. Settle over right eye especially. (Gelsemium - occipt to front, settling behind the eyes). Worse with cold. Better with wrapping head up warmly (hat, scarf). Sweats a lot especially on head (very easily). Sweat and draught - headache can come on.
  • Sweat - can be quite localized eg feet (smelly, athletes foot), hands, armpits.
  • Babies - sweat around the head. (CALC - back of head).
  • Bones, teeth, nails. Has very strong affect on these. Therefore trouble with teething. (slowness, chilliness, sweating)
  • Lack of body heat - sweat very easily - gets colds very easily as a result. Therefore snuffly children. Colds move to ears, discharges, pain. Catarrhal state - sinuses (no discharges). Cold moves to chest. Cough - dry or loose. Worse with cold (air, drinks), talking, lying down.
  • Tendancy to formation of pus. Eg Child falls over and wound becomes septic. Other examples are tooth abscesses, boils, tonsillitis (inflammed around base).
  • Nails - white spots, ridges, splitting, brittle. Therefore desire for eggs.
  • Food desires/aversions not very reliable. Things noted - desire for eggs, raw veges. Aversion to meat. Intolerance to milk, fat.
  • Sandy-haired, very fine hair.
  • Don't have a lot of fears (except socially).
  • Thing about pins and needles. (Sensation of pin in throat).
  • Expulsive quality - pushes out splinters.
  • Complaints from suppression - eg lumps in the breast, traced back to using anti-perspirants under arms. Remedy given, and putrid perspiration comes.
  • Complaints from vaccinations.
  • Deafness cleared with snapping/popping sound in ears.
  • Silica patient is cold, chilly, hugs the fire, wants plenty of warm clothing, hates draughts, hands and feet cold, worse in winter. Sensation of hair on tongue.
Uses

     

Sore throat

  • Gradual onset. Lasts a long time. Sub-acute state.
  • Ulcers.
  • Cracks in corners of mouth.
  • Not particularly offensive.
  • Glands strongly affected - shotty lumps.
  • Tonsils – swollen                
  • Cause - often lack of sleep, feeling run down, loss of energy. Glands in throat come up.

     Ear Ache

  • Discharging ear. Continuing. Gritty, can be blood streaked.
  • Smelly discharges.
  • Deafness - a lot of mucus in Eust. tubes. Better from yawning, blowing nose, swallowing.
  • Typically - nasal cold, sinuses blocked and infected. Then nose blocked but not discharging. Then sneaks down Eust. tubes giving ear ache. Itching in Eust. tubes.
  • Pains - shooting.
  • Glands swollen especially up back of neck.
  • Very chilly - sweating hands and feet.
  • Finely built - shy, timid, but strong opinions.
  • Worse around full moon.
    Abscesses
  • Inflames, forms pus, forms vent, discharges pus but watery liquid weeps out. Watery blood - serum - keeps weeping out.
  • Abscess goes much deeper, and brings out blood.
  • Keltoids can form when a lot of damage is done.

   Teething problems in Babies
  • Problems digesting milk (Calc Carb, Calc Phos).
  • Perspiration around head (Calc Carb) but right down neck.
  • Usually quite friendly.
  • Tendency to constipation. "Bashful" stools. Constant straining.
